Job Title: Music Teacher

Job Purpose:

Create and implement a dynamic and engaging music education program that fosters student learning, creativity, and personal growth. Develop lesson plans aligned with school goals and music education standards. Establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families. Inspire students to explore and appreciate music through performance, theory, and history.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction/Education Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a comprehensive music curriculum that includes vocal and instrumental instruction, music theory, and appreciation.
  • Develop purposeful and engaging lesson plans that incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and musical genres.
  • Provide students with opportunities to perform and express themselves musically through concerts, recitals, and classroom activities.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and participation.
  • Prepare students for school-wide performances and community events.
  • Stay current with best practices in music education and integrate technology where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular learning and school-wide initiatives.

Classroom Environment:

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that encourages creativity and respect.
  • Display student work and musical achievements to celebrate progress and foster pride.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and participation.
  • Manage classroom instruments and materials responsibly.

Instructional Planning:

  • Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and school objectives.
  • Incorporate a variety of musical styles, cultures, and historical contexts.
  • Plan for individual and group instruction to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Participate in curriculum development and school-wide planning.

School/Community Relations:

  • Communicate regularly and positively with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming events.
  • Collaborate with staff and administration to support school culture and student success.
  • Organize and lead music-related extracurricular activities and events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid teaching certification in Music (K–12 or appropriate level).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship).
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, performance, and pedagogy.
  • Proficiency in one or more instruments and/or vocal performance.
  • Effective classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission and values.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Adherence to the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
