Performs basic patient care. Observes and reports abnormal occurrences or changes in patient condition. Cleans, stocks and maintains supplies for the patient unit. Performs approved NA II duties. Assists in the admission of patients to the unit to include orientation to the unit, hospital routine and patient care equipment. Responds to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient need to the appropriate person. Assists with implementation of nursing plan of care by carrying out delegated patient care tasks. Assists in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies. Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items for patient care use as applicable per unit. Maintains a well-stocked, clean patient environment. Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services. Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities. Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity. The Nurse Intern may perform additional NA II clinical skills approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing after continuing education and/or competency validation. Other duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include high school graduate or equivalent, successful completion of the first semester in an accredited school of nursing, current registration with the NC Board of Nursing as an NA II, no work experience required, demonstrated competency in basic nursing practice and use of the nursing process, excellent guest relations skills, verbal and written skills, ability to read English, ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team, flexibility in approach to work tasks and schedules, ability to grasp new skills and techniques, basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served, basic computer skills, ability to work variable shifts, ability to turn and lift patients, much standing, walking, bending and lifting, visual and auditory acuity for observing patients, and exposure to blood and body secretions with potential contact with infectious material.
