Job Description

This is a full-time position at $15.13 per hour, M - F, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:

Under general supervision of the District Attorney and the Assistant District Attorneys, the purpose of the position is to conduct research in the preparation of cases within the District Attorney’s office. Employees in this classification perform research and analysis work. Position is responsible for conducting legal research and interviews, assisting in preparing cases before trial, preparing motions and orders and performing administrative office support work. Performs related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB, include but are not limited to:
Assists in requesting, assembling and filing discovery from police departments, labs, medical providers and experts; assists in conducting criminal background checks using state criminal record databases; compiles initial criminal case file for the office; drafting of initial Criminal Informations for review by attorneys; conducts legal research as requested by attorneys; drafting of initial documents and filings as requested by attorneys; assists in preparing cases and pleas; prepares motions and orders; performs administrative office support within the department on an as-needed basis; etc.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Associate degree or paralegal degree or equivalent is preferred, but not required, plus secretarial, legal and computer training.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least one year working experience in law office, law enforcement or court setting, with preference given to criminal law experience, or any acceptable combination of training and experience.
